WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
As Barbara Freethy said in her Keynote Speech at RWA2015, every writer should have a strategic plan.
Everyone needs a strategic plan. And, but everyone, I mean corporations, small business owners, creatives, and individuals from high-schoolers on up. If you don’t have a plan, what you have is a wish. And wishes rarely get you where you want to go. While several books and blogs have been written on thi topic, most focus strictly on the actual documentation of the plan rather than on the thought process behind it. As writers, we know the folly of that! In fiction, so doing results in two-dimensional characters, flat story arcs, and loose ends all over the place. In planning, it often results in a beautiful concept that you either can’t or aren’t motivated to put into practice. What’s the point in that?
In this 7-week intensive class, you’ll learn how to craft a plan that really works from a master strategist with 20 years of professional experience. Similar workshops for small business owners will run you anywhere from $199 to more than a thousand dollars, so the Passionate Ink offering is a great deal. Plus, this isn’t just a generic workshop. Since our trainer is a multi-published erotic fiction writer herself, she understands the goals and conflicts writers — particularly romance writers and, even more particularly, erotic writers — tend to have in common. And she knows how to ask questions that will help you think about what you truly want to do and where you want to go while still considering career path options and what’s happening in the industry today. Further, the class doesn’t stop at the end of your written plan. We’ll also discuss how to put your plan into action and learn how to assess your plan regularly. We’ll wrap by talking briefly about how to integrate promotion and production plans into your overarching strategic plan. The goal is for you to end February with a sense of direction, some concrete goals, and both a plan and a passion for making your wishes reality.
